Here are a few things about me: I was born in France in a family where gardening, fishing, canning, wine making, sewing, and general homesteading were not hobbies but things you do because they have been done for generations. So we did them. It took me a long time to realise that much of the simple life I aspire to, like many other people, I had had as a child. But many things have changed, and today’s simple life is not yesterday’s. Hence this book.
Then I went to school, moved to the United States to do my PhD, taught at two universities there, one in the mid-West and one in the South until I crossed the Atlantic again. I now live in the Northwest of England, where I teach, write and garden.
